“Social Welfare Club” of the department of Law and Human Rights organized an online seminar on 11th August, 2021 titled “Sexual Harassment in Bangladesh: A Socio Legal Context” The Chief Guest was Dr. Chowdhury Ishrak Ahmed Siddiky, Head of the Department of Law and Human Rights of University of Asia Pacific and the Special Guests were Dr. Faustina Pereira, Advocate, Supreme Court of Bangladesh, Professor and Senior Fellow, Center for Peace and Justice, BRAC University, Dhaka and Barrister Imran Abdullah Siddiq, Advocate, Supreme Court of Bangladesh. The seminar was open to the public and more than 200 people attended.
The host formally started the event, and requested to the Chief Guest for saying something. The Chief Guest opened the session with an introductory speech and the importance of knowledge regarding sexual harassment.
Later, the General Secretary of the Social Welfare Club, Ateea Shreen Ratri presented a paper on Sexual Harassment in Bangladesh: : A Socio Legal Context.
Then, the host introduced the Special Guest Dr. Faustina Pereira. After the main event the stage was given to the Special Guest Dr. Faustina Pereira, who presented the paper on Sexual Harassment and gave us the minuscule points concerning sexual harassment. It involves the use of explicit or implicit sexual overtones, including the unwelcome and inappropriate promise of rewards in exchange for sexual favors- she added.
Alongside, the host introduced another Special Guest Barrister Imran Abdullah Siddiq. The session next shifted to another special guest Barrister Imran Abdullah Siddiq who pointed out all the laws, rules and legal procedure.
Following that, important session the event had a segment of Question and Answer where the audience got a chance to clarify or ask questions related to Sexual harassment and the Special Guests answered them.
A surprising address from Honorable, Air Commodore Ishfaq Ilahi Choudhary, NDC, PSC (RETD.), on behalf of the University of Asia Pacific as the Treasurer of the University. He shared his lovely experiences with them, regarding the objective on sexual harassment and the changes needed in the policy.
Finally, the host introduced the Ms. Azizun Nahar, the Convener of the Social Welfare Club and requested to convey vote of thanks. The convener of the Social Welfare Club who thanked the Chief Guest, Special Guests, Honorable Treasure, audience and the Club members. And by her speech the seminar came to an end.
