UNESCO Madanjeet Singh South Asian Institute of Advanced Legal and Human Rights Studies (UMSAILS) in collaboration with the Department of Law and Human Rights, University of Asia pacific (UAP) organized “UAP – UAMSAILS Inter University Moot Court Competition 2024”, held from 18th to 20th April, 2024.
Each moot court team consisted of 3 members (2 mooters and 1 researcher) and a total of 20 teams from 15 public and private Universities registered and participated in the competition.
The competition was coordinated and facilitated by Professor Dr. Chowdhury Ishrak Ahmed Siddiky, Department of Law & Human Rights, UAP.
Mr. Justice A.F.M. Abdur Rahman (Retd.), inaugurated the competition as the chief guests on the 18th of April 2024 while Dr. M Alauddin, member, BOT, UAP and Prof. Dr. Sultan Mahmud, Pro Vice-Chancellor, UAP were present as the special guests. Mr. Md. Abdur Rahim, Assistant Professor & Head, Department of Law & Human Rights, UAP; and other faculty members of the Department of Law & Human Rights, UAP were also present.
On 19th April, law academics were also practitioners and faculty members from various universities contributed as the Moot Court Judges of the preliminary, quarter-final and semi-final rounds.
The final Round of the Competition took place on 20th April 2024 and the judges of the final round were Mr. Justice Mirza Hossain Haider (Retd.), Appellate Division, Supreme Court of Bangladesh; Dr. Sharif Bhuiyan, Advocate, Supreme Court of Bangladesh; and Director, SAILS; and Dr. Khaled Hamid Chowdhury, Advocate, Appellate Division, Supreme Court of Bangladesh.
In the Closing Ceremony, Architect Mahbuba Haque, Chairperson, BOT, UAP, was present as the chief guest of the program, shed light on the importance of moot competition in court practice and appreciated the efforts of the competitors and encouraged them to gain more knowledge for making their arguments more persuasive.
Prof. Dr. Qumrul Ahsan, Vice Chancellor, UAP and Prof. Dr. M. A. Baqui Khalily, Acting Dean, School of Law were present as the special guests.
The UAP-UMSAILS Inter University Moot Court Competition aims to provide a platform for aspiring legal minds from various universities to engage in rigorous legal advocacy and hone their skills in oral argumentation and legal research. This year’s competition promises to be an intellectually stimulating and enriching experience for all participants.
After three days of intense mooting, the team of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Maritime University, Bangladesh emerged as champion and the team of London School of Commerce Dhaka (LSC) became runner-up of the prestigious event.
