BLAST- UAP Clinical Legal Education 2023
A 5 day long Clinical Legal Education was organized by the Department of Law and Human Rights, University of Asia Pacific (UAP) in partnership with Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust (BLAST). 16 selected students of LLB and LLM programs have participated in this training program during 11-15 of July 2023 held at the UAP Campus.
The inaugural ceremony of the clinical program was chaired by Mr. Md. Abdur Rahim, Head of the Department, Department of Law and Human Rights, UAP. Dr. Chowdhury Ishrak Ahmed Siddiky, Associate Professor and Coordinator, UMSAILS LLM Program, Department of Law and Human Rights, UAP delivered his speech as special guest. Distinguished resource persons have conducted theoretical and practical sessions.
Mr. Justice Mirza Hussain Haider, Former Judge, Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh discussed on “Civil Justice” whereas Mr. Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury, Former Judge, High Court Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh talked on “Criminal Justice.” Mr. ZI Khan Panna, Senior Advocate of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh delivered his lecture on ‘Professional Ethics’ and Dr. Md. Shahjahan, Former Senior District Judge and Sessions Judge and Chairman, 1st Labour Court, Dhaka discussed on ‘Labour Disputes.’ Mr. Shahriar Kabir, Bicharah (District and Sessions Judge) Nari O Shishu Nirjatan Daman Tribunal 4, Dhaka conducted practical session on criminal justice and Aynun Nahar Siddique (Lipi), Advocate, Supreme Court of Bangladesh discussed on ‘Family Matters’.
Mr. Md. Asaduzzaman, Associate Professor, Department of Law and Human Rights, UAP, Mr. Md. Abdur Rahim, Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of Law and Human Rights, UAP, Mr. Kamruzzaman Bhuiyan, Advocate of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh and Mr. Md. Saleh Akram, Assistant Professor of the Department of Law and Human Rights, UAP have enlightened the participants on different aspects.
The closing ceremony of the clinical program was chaired by Mr. Md. Abdur Rahim, Head of the Department, Department of Law and Human Rights, UAP. Mr. Shahriar Kabir, Bicharak (District and Sessions Judge), Nari O Shishu Nirjaton Tribunal 4, Dhaka and Mr. Md. Mostak Jamil, Director (Research), BLAST delivered their speeches as special guest respectively. Mr. Md. Saleh Akram, Assistant Professor and Coordinator of the program voted thanks to the guests and the participants of the event in the closing on 15 July 2023.
